Community Floor & Pool Deck
(Interior Views, p2)

(click photos to enlarge)

Dissecting the tower above the 30th residential floor will be the Community Floor. It will have a fitness room and gym on one side and a community hall and TV lounge on the other. Between the two will be the open-air viewing deck with double height ceiling clearance.

The community floor will also have locker room, office and reception to support the gym, in addition to pantry and toilets.

The community hall will be spacious enough to hold large functions. Alternatively, it will provide a space where residents and their guests can relax, read and intermingle with others, while enjoying pleasant Marina views.

It will also be possible to partition off parts of the hall for smaller functions. An adjacent pantry will be available for preparation of refreshments. In addition, a separate room with large-screen TV will allow residents to enjoy video and on-air broadcasts in the company of others.

The fitness room and gym on the other side of the floor will provide the latest equipment for training and exercise. Adjacent to the main fitness hall will be additional space for aerobics and floor exercises.

Residents can enjoy working out over views of the city or while watching wall mounted TV screens. Fitness buffs will be able to work out with free weights as well as machines.

The Podium Pool Deck

The towers podium will rise 4 floors above ground. At its top will be a 24.5 X 8 meter swimming pool. In addition there will be the open pool deck, a jacuzzi, solarium and showers.

The SW facing side of the tower will overlook the pool and deck. (Above the entrance hall and shower rooms will be the first technical floor with a ceiling clearance of 6.8 meters. Above it will be residential floor 1.)

The open air setting will provide the ideal "in-house" outdoor retreat for residents and their guests. During hot summer months the pool will be just the place to cool off, and during cooler months the deck will be the perfect place to sun.

The Entry & Lobby

You arrive at the stylish entrance of the MAG 218 Tower, newly opened in late 2008.

"MAG 218," a quick confirmation that you're at the right address. You can't help but admire the cool granite and blue glass facade.

Your car whisks quietly away into the parking structure while residents glance down upon the entryway from the second level landing.

"Good afternoon, sir," you're greeted by the receptionist. Perhaps you're a bit early, so you can relax for a moment on a chair in the lobby.

As you walk across the granite floor toward the lifts, the echo of your footsteps reverberate off the high walls and ceiling. You find an elevator that will take you up to the 15th floor.

The Apartments

The MAG 218 Tower has 550 apartment units, 10 on each of its 55 residential floors. At the four corners are the 2-bedroom units. The 1-bedroom units are positioned three to a side on the SW and NE faces of the tower. The representations in this account are fictional and serve only to provide context for the images.

You reach your destination at flat No. 1508.

The Living/Dining Room

Your host welcomes you as you glance around the spacious living room. The view through the floor to ceiling window is quite spectacular. "Aren't those the towers of the Phase I Dubai Marina project?"

"Why don't you have a seat," your host intones. The sofa looks comfortable, but what you'd really like is a bite to eat. "Would you mind if I just sat here at the counter? I'd love a glass of cold water."

The Kitchen

From the bar-counter you admire the wood veneer and marble finishes, and the overall clean styling of the kitchen. "Wow, I don't suppose you've done much cooking yet. The kitchen looks immaculate."

The stainless steel refrigerator and gas range match the modern decor. The overhead cabinets with semi-opaque, glass panelling add a sense of openness to the otherwise compact design.

The Bedroom

After a bite to eat, you're just about ready for a nap. The wide open and light-filled bedroom is inviting. The views again are quite spectacular but it might be better to draw the curtains.

Your host has offered the comfort of a bed with fresh linen. You ponder whether to accept, or just stretch out on the leather recliner in stead. "You could just crash on the floor with a couple of pillows," your host offers again, hopefully in jest!

The Bathroom

After a short but restful nap, it's time to freshen up. The bathroom is as inviting as anywhere else in the apartment. Like the cool, fresh surfaces in the tower's lobby and entrance, the bathroom uses starkly contrasing shades of blue, white and chrome to create a hard, clean finish.

A bath or shower would be the perfect indulgence, but time dictates just a quick freshening up.

The Corridor

The visit to the apartment was a treat and the friend a perfect host. Fortunately that was just the first of a few "excursions" in the new MAG 218. You head to the community floor to meet another acquaintance.

Stay tuned for Interior Views, p2--the Community Floor and Podium Deck.

Exterior Views

This tower is designed to be a landmark by its pure geometric forms, enhanced by the use of modern materials and clear spaces.

The MAG 218 Tower at 67 floors rises approximately 275 meters high. Its 550 1- and 2-bedroom apartments are spread over 55 residential floors.

It's base consists of a podium with 3 levels below ground and 5 levels above. The tower is segmented midway by a community floor with recreational hall and fitness center.

The tower is crowned by steel lattice arches, framing a glass-walled cooling tower rising from the core. The top 5 floors feature full glass exteriors (no balconies) and thinner interior wall partitions.

Separating the community hall and fitness center, above floor 30, is an open-air viewing deck. The ceiling of the open-air deck extends two floors, to the top of the technical floor above.

The main part of the tower exterior consists of cladding in aluminum composite panels, with double-glazed tinted glass windows. The podium skin is made of metal mesh.

The podium design allows for natural ventilation on all above-ground parking levels--space provided for 628 vehicles. Its top features 25.5 X 8 meter swimming pool and sun-deck.

The tower rises at the head of the Dubai Marina district. Access from the north-east is along "D" Road, which forms a T-junction at the Dubai Marina Ring Road.

From the south-east the Dubai Marina Ring road leads to the tower's stylish main entrance.

By year 2008, the MAG 218 will be the address of choice for upwardly mobile professionals and the style conscious globe-trotter.
