The Entry & Lobby

You arrive at the stylish entrance of the MAG 218 Tower, newly opened in late 2008.

"MAG 218," a quick confirmation that you're at the right address. You can't help but admire the cool granite and blue glass facade.

Your car whisks quietly away into the parking structure while residents glance down upon the entryway from the second level landing.

"Good afternoon, sir," you're greeted by the receptionist. Perhaps you're a bit early, so you can relax for a moment on a chair in the lobby.

As you walk across the granite floor toward the lifts, the echo of your footsteps reverberate off the high walls and ceiling. You find an elevator that will take you up to the 15th floor.

The Apartments

The MAG 218 Tower has 550 apartment units, 10 on each of its 55 residential floors. At the four corners are the 2-bedroom units. The 1-bedroom units are positioned three to a side on the SW and NE faces of the tower. The representations in this account are fictional and serve only to provide context for the images.

You reach your destination at flat No. 1508.

The Living/Dining Room

Your host welcomes you as you glance around the spacious living room. The view through the floor to ceiling window is quite spectacular. "Aren't those the towers of the Phase I Dubai Marina project?"

"Why don't you have a seat," your host intones. The sofa looks comfortable, but what you'd really like is a bite to eat. "Would you mind if I just sat here at the counter? I'd love a glass of cold water."

The Kitchen

From the bar-counter you admire the wood veneer and marble finishes, and the overall clean styling of the kitchen. "Wow, I don't suppose you've done much cooking yet. The kitchen looks immaculate."

The stainless steel refrigerator and gas range match the modern decor. The overhead cabinets with semi-opaque, glass panelling add a sense of openness to the otherwise compact design.

The Bedroom

After a bite to eat, you're just about ready for a nap. The wide open and light-filled bedroom is inviting. The views again are quite spectacular but it might be better to draw the curtains.

Your host has offered the comfort of a bed with fresh linen. You ponder whether to accept, or just stretch out on the leather recliner in stead. "You could just crash on the floor with a couple of pillows," your host offers again, hopefully in jest!

The Bathroom

After a short but restful nap, it's time to freshen up. The bathroom is as inviting as anywhere else in the apartment. Like the cool, fresh surfaces in the tower's lobby and entrance, the bathroom uses starkly contrasing shades of blue, white and chrome to create a hard, clean finish.

A bath or shower would be the perfect indulgence, but time dictates just a quick freshening up.

The Corridor

The visit to the apartment was a treat and the friend a perfect host. Fortunately that was just the first of a few "excursions" in the new MAG 218. You head to the community floor to meet another acquaintance.
